Dow Jones Graphics

Dow Jones Media writes stories about finance (Marketwatch, Barron's, Money-ish). While part of the Graphics Desk, I helped design and code data elements for our websites. I also worked on editorial design projects

Blockbuster and Google Maps

This is a piece about the massiveness of blockbuster's peak. We used the Google Maps API to take in addresses and tell readers which businesses around them used to be blockbusters. The results provided an experience of nolstagia as readers remembered old locations.

I worked on this with Jay Zehngebot and William Davis, providing design and code assistance. A big part of this piece was making sure the experience worked on mobile, so I helped mainly with adapting it that screen.

College Debt

An interactive piece on the rise in college debt. Bar graphs visualize the comparison of the price of tuition from 1987 and now, but the graphs change depending on the school, with a text field asking for school names at the beginning of the story.

Concepted the idea and worked on this with Jay Zehngebot. We didn't want to make just another college debt story, so the personalization of the data really helped make the conversation more meaningful.

Money on the Moon

Money on the Moon

This is an explainer on the invesment possibilities of the moon. We took an illustrative approach, and used things like a space-themed background and unique page transitions to diversify the reading experience. I helped with the design decisions and implemented the style changes with CSS.
